Understanding Portfolio Reviews: Yan Preston
Understanding portfolio reviews is a useful way to share your work, often leading to new opportunities. This is why being able to participate in a mock portfolio review with Yan was so insightful. In the mock review I played the role of the reviewer analysing and listening to one of Yan’s projects (that she had previously showcased). It was interesting to take a different role and it taught me a couple of things:
Always watch for cues and body language
Don’t be afraid to ask if they understand your work
Be sure to get their details when you ask if they’re interested in seeing how the project progresses- this is an important tool for networking
Believe strongly in your own work but be open to helpful criticism
Plan how you will present and show your work in a limited time
