Understanding Portfolio Reviews: Yan Preston

Understanding portfolio reviews is a useful way to share your work, often leading to new opportunities. This is why being able to participate in a mock portfolio review with Yan was so insightful. In the mock review I played the role of the reviewer analysing and listening to one of Yan’s projects (that she had previously showcased). It was interesting to take a different role and it taught me a couple of things:

  • Always watch for cues and body language

  • Don’t be afraid to ask if they understand your work

  • Be sure to get their details when you ask if they’re interested in seeing how the project progresses- this is an important tool for networking

  • Believe strongly in your own work but be open to helpful criticism

  • Plan how you will present and show your work in a limited time
