Interim Shows at University

I’ve found that participating in the Interim Shows at university are useful in progressing with my projects. Understanding how to display your work effectively in a designated area is a difficult but useful skill to have. The interim show that was important for my practice was the most recent as we were able to choose our own way of hanging finished prints, allowing use to use our designated area how we pleased; compared to before where we had to print one A2 print to fill the space. Printing on different paper types and choosing a frame was more difficult than I expected but it was rewarding to see the final project on the wall and understand through peer reviews how it had been percieved by an audience.

My Artist Statement for the 2nd Interim Show-

Hyacinth

This photographer is a young female living alone in her final year of undergraduate study which has influenced the direction of her photography. She uses performativity and conceptual photography to explore and portray her current living situation. Including symbolism in her work through flowers and distance, her self-portraits aim to show a strained relationship between isolation and connection with others, including family and friends. The cyanotype technique allows for a relationship with time outside in comparison to self-portraiture created in a studio setting, showing the juxtaposition of wanting to spend time with others but feeling the comfort of isolation.
