Powerhouse (Building a Company): Richard White

Powerhouse Studios was founded in 1999 by Richard White and others the studios focus on creating food photography for commercial purposes. They have worked to create photograhs for Sainsburys, Quorn, M&S, Aldi and more. The Studio has grown a lot over the years now having 11 kitchens, a greenscreen area for video and 30 staff.

Richard White talked to us about how he created Powerhouse Studios. Starting out as an assistant photographer he started to build his skills and practice. The advice is:

  • Find a company that understands work-life balance, life needs to be enjoyable and there has to be a foundation built on trust

  • Use whatever contacts you have- Never burn a bridge!

  • Never stop learning- don’t get stuck in the past

  • Embrace change- always keep an eye open for new technologies you can bring in and use to your advantage such as AI

  • Have confidence in yourself and take your time

  • Be a people person- being nice goes a long way

  • Take pride in what you’re doing and you’ll enjoy it
