Sequencing with: Tom Duffield and Liam Devlin
In an afternoon workshop I had the pleasure of listening to the process of how Thomas Duffield (http://thomasduffield.com/) sequences his work for books and other media. In photography sequencing is important in different forms of media for putting across the intended ideas with context. Though not having to be in chronological order, the way in which images are laid out create a different narrative. It’s always important to take notice of advice from people existing in the industry, there are different ways to access this but it is one of the advantages of my undergraduate degree. Seeing Tom Duffield’s way of working was insightful, even the simple idea of creating a dummy book and then just blu-tacking the images in so you can easily rearrange as you work and concepts change. Different projects need different layouts depending on the type of photography. For documentary photography you may want to keep a simple layout to let the images speak for themselves with just a bit of writing alongside but this differs greatly from a more artistic approach.
